The Cabildo and the Presbytere

The Cabildo and the Presbytere:

The buildings flanking the St. Louis Cathedral are the Cabildo on the left, built in 1794, and the Presbytere built in 1813 on the left. The Cabildo is the site where the Louisiana Purchase was signed and is currently used as a Museum that has the death mask of Napoleon in one of its exhibits.

The Presbytere, which means "Priest House", was built in 1724 as a traditional Capuchin monastery and housed the priests who served the Cathedral's congregation. This building is now also used as a museum. The alley between the Cathedral and the Presbytere is named for one of the most loved priests, Pere Antoine.
