Every year the Preservation Resource Center, a group committed to preserving the architecture of New Orleans, presents a holiday home tour of private homes in the Garden District of New Orleans. These are more mansions than homes and are all privately owned and occupied. The homes on the tour are beautifully decorated for the holidays and are all within walking distance of each other. The tour is self-guided with a map that is provided with you ticket, so you can take your time and enjoy the tour.
The tour is held in early December on a Saturday and a Sunday. The times are usually from 10 am to 4 pm. For the exact dates this year check the calendar.
You can purchase tickets in advance by visiting the website. On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at the headquarters at Trinity Episcopal Church at 1329 Jackson Avenue. Ticket prices are usually about $35 in advance or $40 on the day of the event. Tickets are valid for either day or both days during the weekend of the tour.
The event includes informational tours of the interiors of historic Garden District homes. There are live performances by New Orleans musicians at each home on the tour. The tour headquarters include a café with food and drink. There's also a premier holiday boutique with a wide variety of vendors selling unique artisan wares.
