A tour of Creole homes in Faubourg Marigny.
Faubourg is a French term for neighborhood, and Faubourg Marigny is the second oldest Faubourg in New Orleans, just down river of the oldest Faubourg, the Vieux Carre (French Quarter). This area of the city is filled with Creole homes of the 1800's, small cafes and places for Jazz. The annual tour of homes is a rare opportunity to tour the inside of the beautiful, historic homes. There are also Kids activities, an art market and music.
The tour begins in Washington Square Park and the homes are scattered throughout the Faubourg Marigny. Washington Square Park is in the heart of Faubourg Marigny and is located at 700 Elysian Fields,
Another Historical Tour in Fall:
The Faubourg Marigny Association also sponsors a historical tour in the fall. This is also a guided tour that begins at Washington Square Park and has live music, arts and crafts, and a kids area. This tour is different because it doesn't go into the homes, rather it's a tour of the neighborhood with a guide who knows the history.
