Shakespeare Festival at Tulane

By Sharon Keating, About.com

Tulane University has an annual season of plays dedicated to William Shakespeare.

All Shakespeare

All Shakespeare, all the time, is one way to describe this unique offering from one of the country's leading universities. The Festival started out in 1994 as a summer theater, geared toward the works of the Bard to fill a void in New Orleans summer entertaianment. Now, the company performs year round. In addition to traditional costume, many performances are staged in modern dress, displaying the timelessness of the works. Mainstage performances are given at the Lupin Theater on campus. If you love Shakespeare, you can indulge yourself all year long here in New Orleans.

More Than Just Theater

The Festival puts on special productions for schools and summer training programs for high schoolers. An Institute on Teaching offers teachers sessions on how to bring Shakespeare alive in the classroom. Shakespeare On The Road brings the action to schools, where the actors stage scenes and help the students to understand the power and history of the language.
