There's Voodoo in the air, and its name is the link url=http://goneworleans.about.com/od/sportsteams/a/neworleansaints.htm]New Orleans Saints.[/link] In other places, that sentence might have internal contradictions. But remember, this is New Orleans, where religion, music, food, and fun, are often interchangeable. Win or lose, the New Orleans Saints have been a part of New Orleans for almost 40 years. The return of this team to the City means we have taken yet another giant step toward reclaiming our lives.
Get an update on what's happening now.
The Saints and New Orleans:
If you know anything about football, you know that the Saints have never been in the top echelon of the NFL. If you know anything about New Orleans, you realize that these guys have become as much a part of us as red beans and rice, and we would no more desert them than we would give up on rebuilding. It ain't gonna happen, not here. But like the ads for the team say, "You gotta have faith." With our various teams over the years, there have been times when that's all we've had. Perhaps the Saints taught us a lesson on never giving up, and that's why we're still here. You have to love them.
The Monday Night Game:
The Monday night game against our arch rivals, the Atlanta Falcons, is clearly more than a football game. The NFL has pulled out all the stops, including reviving the NFL Experience. The interactive theme park will return to New Orleans on Monday, providing games outside the Superdome. The Goo Goo Dolls headline along with the Rebirth and Storyville brass bands.
The show inside the Dome will feature U2 and Green Day, performing together in public for the first time. Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas will sing the national anthem, and former President George Bush will preside over the coin toss.
This is a wonderful way to cleanse the Dome of its tragic Katrina images, and an incomparable way for New Orleanians to continue cleansing our souls. Hope to see you there!
