A New Orleans Tradition:
It's always been the norm in New Orleans to buy fresh seafood and produce directly from the fishermen and farmers. Now these markets have expanded to include flea markets where you can find used items of every description, plus new arts and crafts by local artisans. Of course, because this is New Orleans, there's usually music.
The French Market:
The French Market located in the French Quarter is the oldest and largest of all of the farmer's markets and also has a huge flea market. Best of all it's open every day.
The Crescent City Farmers' Markets :
There are two Crescent City Farmers' Markets in New Orleans. One is held every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon on the corner of Magazine and Girod in the Warehouse/Arts District. The other is on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Uptown Square in Uptown New Orleans.
The New Orleans Art Market:
The New Orleans Art Market held on the last Saturday of every month and features many artisans. It's a great way to find a unique souvenir of your visit, or some affordable art for gifts. There's also a flea market connected with this art market.
The Bywater Art Market:
The Bywater Art Market is held on the third Saturday of every month and is a juried art market with some great deals.
Broad Street Bazaar :
The Broad Street Bazaar is held on the fourth Saturday of the month at North Broad and Bienville streets, and is a real flea market, but also has some original arts and crafts.
Freret Street Market:
Held on the first Saturday of every month, the Freret Street Market has three catagories; food art and flea. It also has local restaurants offering samples and there's always music. The Freret Street Market is located in the 4400 block of Freret Street, near its intersection with Napoleon Avenue. The market runs from noon to 5 p.m.
