Thanksgiving Fun in New Orleans

Thanksgiving weekend offer lots of possibilites in New Orleans. Why not start off the Sunday before Thanksgiving with a festival?

Presevation of the Po-Boy Festival

On Sunday Nov. 22 we celebrate one of our favorite foods, the Po-Boy. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along the newly renovated Oak Street corridor in the Carrollton section of New Orleans, between Carrollton Avenue and Eagle Street. Getting there is easy and scenic: you can ride the historic St. Charles Avenue Streetcar from downtown to Stop #46 and return the same way.

The Fairgrounds Race Track

Thanksgiving day is a great day to enjoy the sport of kings at the Fairgrounds Race Course. The food is excellent and the horse racing is first class.

Dreams Come True Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio”

The New Orleans Museum of Art has a special exhibit running from November 15th through March 14th. This is a major exhibition featuring more than 600 original historic artworks, many of which date back to the 1930’s when Walt Disney himself drew; pioneering new techniques and innovations in the art of film animation. In the process, Disney Studios shaped such legendary animated features as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. The NOMA exhibition will also include artwork from Disney’s newest princess movie set right here in New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog.

The Bayou Classic College Football Game

Every Thanksgiving weekend, the Southern Jaguars and the Grambling Tigers meet in one of the greatest rivalries in college football. It happens in the Louisiana Superdome and is the biggest event of the weekend, except maybe for the turkey, the Bayou Classic.
