Guide Review - Ralph's on the Park
Across the street from City Park in New Orleans, in a building originally built in 1859, you'll find Ralph's on the Park. Executive Chef Gerard Maras prepares "Louisiana French Cuisine".
The dinner menu offers some wonderful appetizers, like fried green tomatoes topped with jumbo lump crabmeat and ravigote sauce, and my favorite, Oysters Ralph, a spicy dish of fresh Louisiana oysters cooked with bacon and jalapeno cream sauce served on a bed of wilted spinach. The Charcuterie Plate, filled with the Chef's selection of pates, terrines and galantines is great for sharing. For an entree I can never get past the Baby Drum baked with sauce Béarnaise. But, friends have ordered the salmon, lamb chops, pork chops and pasta dishes and assure me they are all wonderful. One of my best friends always gets the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, and the last time we went I had a taste. I may consider alternating that with the drum on future visits to Ralph's. For dessert try some of the homemade ice creams or one of the two deliciously decadent chocolate desserts.
A great time to visit Ralph's is during the holiday season. Because of it location across from City Park, it's a great place to dine before or after your visit to Celebration in the Oaks. If you decide to take the horse-drawn carriage ride through the park, check with Ralph's for a special event dinner, they usually offer them at this time of year. But, whenever you visit, you'll love the food and ambiance at Ralph's on the Park.
