Restaurants in the Warehouse/Arts District of New Orleans

By Sharon Keating, About.com

Trendy and Fun:

The Warehouse/Arts District is home to many of the city's young professionals. Loft living surrounded by art galleries, restaurants, cafes, and museums, makes the area a great place to live and play. It's also a great place to visit when you're in town. Conveniently located in the American Sector of New Orleans bordering the Central Business District, the Warehouse/Arts District is walking distant from the French Quarter.

Let's Talk Food:

Restaurants abound in the Warehouse/Arts District. If you like Italian, try Tommy's Cuisine.

Tommy's uses fresh New Orleans seafood to create a new twist on the usual Italian fare. Don't miss Tommy's wine bar next door to see and be seen among the locals.

La Cote Brasserie:

La Cote is in the Renaissance Arts Hotel, and features an upscale bar that often offers free noshes like oysters on Fridays. Chances are you'll want to stay for dinner when you taste the fare.

7 on Fulton

7 on Fulton features New Orleans cuisine in a contemporary space.

Wolfe's in the Warehouse District:

Chef Tom Wolfe has done it again, in this contemporary setting for his modern take of Creole and French food. Located in the Marriot on Convention Center Blvd., Wolfe's does not disappoint.

La Boca:

La Boca is a South American-style steakhouse at 857 Fulton Street. Of course, steaks are the star, but there is also pasta, salads, and yummy fries.

Chop and Joe's:

This is a casual place with reasonable prices and simple fare on the corner of Tchoupitoulas and St. Joseph Streets. But good!

Cochon

Chef Donald Link offers authentic Cajun food at Cochon (930 Tchoupitoulas Street) creating boudin, andouille, smoked bacon, and head cheese. The menu also features handmade crawfish pies, rabbit & dumplings, and spoon bread with okra & tomatoes. Cochon offers specialties from the wood-burning oven such as roasted oysters, suckling pig, and beef brisket. Seafood from local waters round out the offerings with Chef Link’s signature roasted gulf fish “fishermen” style.

Rio Mar:

Located at 800 S. Peters, Rio Mar celebrates Louisiana seafood by preparing it in a Latin style.

Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar:

Lucy's is a favorite hangout for the 20-30 somethings, especially on Fridays. It's at 701 Tchoupitoulas. It's reasonably priced menu includes all the Mexican favorites and great omelets on the weekends.

Ugly Dog Saloon & Bar-B-Que:

Located at 401 Howard Ave, the Ugly Dog is a great place for a beer, some pool and excellent bar-b-que.
