Sure, you know about the world-class Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. But, do you know that the zoo has special events for families, including an overnight adventure? The Audubon Zoo has many family friendly special events for families who want to go beyond just a day at the zoo.
Early Mornings at the Zoo:
For families with children over 2, try the early morning family event on April 9th. From 8 to 10 a.m. a special few will have breakfast at the zoo, go behind the scenes and learn about the care of the zoo animals from the professionals. Cost for a family of four is $150 for zoo members and $180 for non-members.
Less Expensive and Later in the Day:
If you can't imagine getting the kids ready and at the zoo for 8 a.m., try the Twilight Trek. Bring a picnic dinner and eat at twilight. Then take a stroll though the zoo after closing with a naturalist. These events are open to all ages and are affordable at $10 for members, $12 for non-members and are conducted from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Creepy Crawlers:
For the bug lover in your family, try the Bug Club on a few limited Saturday afternoons. This program is for children over 8, and the kids get to meet the creepy crawlers up close. The zoo-keepers teach the kids how to identify and care for different species in a hands-on program. The cost for this program is $40 for members and $48 for non-members
The Ultimate Camping Trip:
If you want the ultimate experience, bring your sleeping bags and a picnic dinner and spend the night at the zoo in one of the most memorable camping adventures your family will ever have. The Toddler Night Out is a special family program open to all ages and includes a behind the scene tour with the zoo-keepers where children can meet some of the animals up close. Special craft activities are also in store for those who opt for this fun adventure. In the morning a continental breakfast is served and you and your family can take an early morning stroll through the zoo. The Toddler Night Out is an adventure designed for families with children ages 2 to 5, although everyone is welcome and the cost is reasonable at $36 for a family of four for members and a non-member rate of $43 for a family of four.
Any of these adventures sound like your family? Then hurry, because the zoo has only limited times and space for these adventures.
