Dancing In The Big Easy

By

Like New Orleans? Like to dance? Here are a couple of places where you can indulge yourself when you come to town.

Rock 'n'Bowl"

You can do a lot more than rock and roll while you bowl at this popular mid-city venue. Wednesdays are "Swing Night" where you can do the Lindy Hop, West or East Coast swing, or other juke joint favorites. Thursdays are Zydeco evenings, and there's also Cajun dancing, when you can learn the famous Cajun "two step. Mid City Lanes Rock ‘n’ Bowl has moved from 4133 S. Carrolton Avenue to 3000 S. Carrollton, in Mid City. Music starts at 8:30 p.m., and the cover is $5.00. Tickets for some events are $10.00. Visit the website.

Cafe Brasil

At Cafe Brasil in the Marigny, Fredy Omar and his band provide the music for salsa dancers on Wednesdays and Fridays. Free dance lessons are provided at 8:30, before the band takes the stage at 9:30. Café Brasil is located at 2100 Charters in the Marigny. The cover charge is $7.00.

Club Ampersand

The club bills itself as having an "artsy European feel." Ampersand is very sophisticated. It's on two levels with a large dance floor,a balcony, courtyard, and a VIP Suite. Nationally known DJ's provide most of the entertainment, and celebrities seem to love this place. P.S.--the drinks are great.
