What:
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is the only musician-owned and collaboratively managed professional symphony in the United States. The LPO maintains a resident full-time orchestra that serves as an integral part of the cultural and educational life of New Orleans and the Gulf South region.The LPO, led by Music Director, Carlos Miguel Prieto, performs a full 36 week concert season featuring an array of Classics, Casual Classics, Spotlight, Family, Education, and Outreach concerts.
Where:
Hurricane Katrina destroyed the orchestra's beautiful home in the Orpheum Theater in downtown New Orleans. Now the music venues are in several places. Roussel Hall at Loyola University in Uptown New Orleans and the First Baptist Church at the foot of Canal Street are the two most common sites now. In January 2009 the Mahalia Jackson Theatre will be the new home of the LPO. The Grand Opening Gala will be a very special event.
