New Orleans Mardi Gras Krewes in order of appearance

The Mardi Gras "Krewes" are the organizations that stage the New Orleans Mardi Gras Parades. Here's the list in order of appearance.

11. The Knights of Chaos

The Knights of Chaos is so named because it is made up of riders on other krewes and uses floats from other parades. Chaos rolls on the Thursday between the first and second weekend of Carnival parades.

12. The Krewe of Muses

The Krewe of Muses represents the nine muses who were the daughters of Zues in Greek mythology. This all-women krewe has a giant shoe as its Queen's float. The Muses roll on the Thursday between the two weekends of Carnival parades.

13. The Knights of Hermes

The Knights of Hermes is another Mardi Gras Krewe from the 1930s. Hermes is the messengerr of the gods in Greek mythology. Hermes rolls on the Friday of the second weekend of Carnival parades.

14. Le Krewe D'Etat

Le Krewe D'Etat always stages a satirical parade. D'Etat keeps its theme and float titles a closely guarded secret. The most fun about D'Etat is reading the float titles. D'Etat rolls on the Friday of the second weekend of Carnival parades.

15. Krewe of Morpheus

The Krewe of Morpheus is open to everyone, regardless of sex or race. It rolls on the Friday of the second weekend of Carnival parades.

16. Krewe of Iris

The Krewe of Iris is a popular women only parade named for the goddess of the rainbow. This is one of the oldest krewes in Mardi Gras, dating back to 1917. The Krewe of Iris rolls on the Saturday of the second weekend of Carnival parades.

17. Krewe of Tucks

The Krewe of Tucks is an irreverent parade started by college students. It's named for Friar Tuck's, a popular hangout for students. The king rides on a toilet and throws include rolls of toilet paper. The Krewe of Tucks rolls on the Saturday of the second weekend of the Carnival parades.

18. Krewe of Endymion

The oldest of the Super-Krewes, Endymion started the tradition of having a celebrity Grand Marshal. Among those were, Paul Anka, Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton and Steven Seagal. Endymion always rolls on the Saturday before Mardi Gras.

19. Krewe of Okeanos

Named for the Greek god of oceans and fertile valleys, Okeanos was formerly a Ninth Ward parade by moved to the uptown route years ago. The Krewe of Okeanos always parades on the Sunday before Mardi Gras.

20. Krewe of Thoth

Thoth iw the Egypitan god of wisdom and the inventor os science, art and letters. Thoth always rolls on the Sunday before Mardi Gras.
