The Krewe: Rex was established in 1872, and is the one of the oldest krewes still marching in New Orleans' Mardi Gras History. In that year, the group was formed by businessman who wanted to entertain Russia's Grand Duke Alexis and also make it a fun day for all the citizens. The Rex Organization is active in the community, and have provided services to local schools through volunteering professional assistance. Rex also participated in Project Green, an effort to clean up and green up the city after Katrina. Rex's motto is "Pro Bono Publico--For The Public Good.
Some Floats And Some Throws: A permanent float, the Boeuf Gras, depicts a cow a a symbol of the Lenten fast which begins on the following day, Ash Wednesday. It also has signature floats such as "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Jester", the "Royal Barge," and "His Majesty's Royal Calliope."
