By Sharon Keating, About.com

Balconeers On Bourbon Street

P. Vincent

Lundi Gras is the day before Mardi Gras and has it's own special fun. There's a free concert at the Spanish Plaza (on the Mississippi River where Canal Street starts).

This year the Riverwalk Marketplace will host the 23rd annual Lundi Gras at Spanish Plaza with Rex, King of Carnival, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009. The free celebration will again include fireworks on the Mississippi River and musican entertainment by New Orleans' own Living Legends Brass Band, Rockin' Dopsie, Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters and the Topcats.

Here's the entertainment schedule

  • 3 p.m. - 4:15 p.m Living Legends Brass Band
  • 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Rockin Dopsie, Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters
  • 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Arrival of Rex, King of Carnival & Fireworks
  • 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The Topcats

Two great parades

There are two great parades that roll on Lundi Gras. The Krewe of Proteus takes to the streets at at 5:15pm, followed by The Orpheus Parade. It's a great prelude to Mardi Gras!
