Twelfth Night, King's day, The feast of the Epiphany, whatever you call it, January 6th is a significant day in New Orleans. It's the official start of the Carnival season, that leads up to the day before Ash Wednesday, or Mardi Gras.

Phunny Phorty Fellows

This band of Twelfth Night revelers will hold their annual ride this Saturday at 7 p.m. Although the St. Charles streetcar is still not back on track since Katrina, the Krewe will ride the Canal Street streetcar. The route starts/ends at City Park. This year they will be accompanied by The Storyville Stompers Brass Band.

Backbeat Concert series presents "Carnival Kickoff ‘07"

On Saturday, at 10:30 PM til be at Café Brasil for a concert featuring Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and others.

Mid City Lanes Rock n' Bowl

One of my favorite venues is the Rock n' Bowl. Lots of locals and this year a local favorite, Benny Grunch & the Bunch will perform at 10:00 p.m.

House of Blues

The House of Blues has a big Twelfth Night party. The doors open at 8 and the party starts at 9 p.m. You'll hear Little Freddy King, Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Sunpie & The Louisiana Sunspot. Also, there's a King Cake & Costume Contest.

King's Day means King Cake

The official treat of the Carnival season is King Cake and they come out on Twelfth Night.
