New Orleans has plenty of hotels to fit every taste and budget. Here is a list of the best.

1. The Ritz-Carlton

A luxurious hotel in a renovated historic building on Canal Street at the edge of the French Quarter. The Ritz-Carlton features an elegant dinner club, the Melange, which offers wonderful New Orleans cusine and the Jazz of Jeremy Davenport on Thursday nights. The lobby is beautifully appointed and has a wonderful afternoon tea and other entertainment in the evenings. The rooms are luxurious and well appointed with Italian marble baths, 100% cotton, 400 thread-count sheets, feather beds and duvet covers, and goose down and non-allergic foam pillows. There's also a newly decorated 25,000 square foot spa that is the ultimate in self-indulgence. The Ritz is high end and well worth it.

2. Windsor Court

Wonderfully elegant and convenently located in the Warehouse/Arts district. A block from Harrah's Casino, and four blocks from the French Quarter. This five star hotel is worth a visit. One of my favorite events is the Christmas tea in the beautiful and elegant lobby. The Widsor Court is mostly suites featuring personal safes, wireless and hard-wired internet, refreshment centers, plush terry robes and slippers, iron & ironing boards and hair dryers. Accommodations are spacious and elegant, each individually decorated with original artwork and either a private balcony or bay window overlooking the Mississippi River or the city of New Orleans. There's a health club, business center and a boutique.

3. Omni Royal Orleans

Located in the Heart of the French Quarter on the corner of St. Louis and Royal, this old world French hotel stands on the remains of the grand St. Louis Hotel built in the 1700's. The rooms tend to be small, but elegant. The hotel's restaurant, The Rib Room, is a great place for good food and people watching from the large windows looking out onto Royal Street. There's a great rooftop observation deck and pool offering spectacular views of the French Quarter. This is a great hotel for the French Quarter Festival since everything is within walking distance.

4. The Roosevelt

The Roosevelt New Orleans is an elegant, old-world hotel that's part of the Waldolf Astoria Chain. The Roosevelt Hotel was built in the grand tradition of fine hotels in 1893 and has been a favorite place for visitors and locals alike. There are 369 guest rooms and 135 suites. In 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space, there are three ballrooms and 23 meeting and event rooms. There is a heated outdoor pool and hot tub, along with the Pool Café and Garden Terrace. A favorite place for locals to meet is in the Sazerac Bar which has been restored to its original Art Deco elegance, with the valuable murals of Paul Ninas joyous to behold.

5. Harrah's Casino Hotel

Harrah's Casino has a beautiful hotel across the street from the casino in the Warehouse/Arts District. Harrah's is a new, modern highrise with great views of the city and the Mississippi River. There are 26 floors with 450 oversized luxurious rooms and suites. Fulton Street, connected to Harrah's Hotel, is a pedestrian mall with restaurants, clubs and fun events year round like the New Orleans Seafood Festival and Christmas on Fulton Street.

6. The Intercontinental

A great hotel on Poydras Street in the Central Business District. It's on the Mardi Gras parade route so it's a great hotel for viewing parades safely and easily. It's also on the St. Charles Streetcar line. The Intercontinental has 479 Guest Rooms and 30 Suites on 9 floors. It's contemporary and rated 4 stars. It's also a pet-friendly hotel. The Veranda Restaurant offers one of the best Sunday Jazz Brunches in the city. There's a health center and a many business services.

7. The Renaissance Arts Hotel

A beautiful hotel in the Warehouse/Arts district with some wonderful artwork to enjoy. This is a Marriott Hotel so you can be sure that the 210 rooms have all the amenities you could wish for. The decor is modern, colorful, and entirely artistic. It is near all the major must-see attractions and the St. Charles Streetcar runs nearby. The restaurant, La Cote Brasserie, is a local favorite and specializes in elegantly prepared local seafood. Don't miss the Oyster Bar.

8. The Monteleone

An historic hotel in the French Quarter. Owned by the Monteleone family since 1886, this hotel boasts a central French Quarter location. It's quirky and fun. The the Carousel Bar, rotates as you sit, and is a favorite with locals. The Monteleone is on Royal Street, one of the best streets for antique shopping in New Orleans. You may have seen the Monteleone in the movies or on you TV. The Monteleone has host over half a dozen movies and 19 networks, including a PBS documentary, two wildly popular reality series. The beautiful Monteleone has long been a favorite backdrop for filming in the Crescent City.

9. Le Pavillion

Located in the Central Business Distict, Le Pavillion is convenient, elegant and is within walking distance to the Superdome. This hotel is over 100 years old and has a history stretching back to the Gilded Age. It's décor is impeccable throughout. The award winning Crystal Room restaurant offers fine French cuisine in a classic historic setting. There's a great soup, salad and pasta bar in the Crystal Room. If you like small, elegant hotels that are not the conventional chains, Le Pavillion is for you.

10. Royal Sonesta

The Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter offers lovely rooms and is home to Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse. The Royal Sonesta is a beautifully renovated historic property with comfortable rooms, a great location and good amenities. There's a fitness room and gift shop, lots of meeting space and is a popular wedding venue.
