Swamp Fest:
On the first weekend in November, Audubon Zoo hosts the Louisiana Swamp Festival saluting Cajun food, music, and culture. Swamp animals are featured--wanna get up close and personal with an alligator?Music:
Stages showcase various performers, including many of the top Cajun and Zydeco Bands in Louisiana. The 2009 music schedule is one of the best.Food:
Cajun specialties such as couchon de lait, crawfish beignets, and fried alligator are offered. But you might want to save some room for crawfish bread, smoked turkey legs, Jamaican chicken, or shrimp po-boys. These dishes come by way of many local restaurants.Cajun Stuff:
You can buy homemade jams, original artworks, jewelry, or cemetery clocks. You might learn from a Choctaw how to weave baskets, carve wood or make a boat. The Audubon Zoo is at 6500 Magazine Street in New Orleans. Admission to Swamp Fest is part of the regular admission: $12.00 for adults, $7.00 for children ages 2-12 and $9.00 for seniors (65+). For Swamp Fest, Zoo hours are 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
