Krewe of Boo:
What do you expect when you come to New Orleans? A parade! Although it's not Mardi Gras, on Halloween we will be back out in the streets yelling "Throw me something, mister!" "Mr. Mardi Gras", Blaine Kern, has organized a new parade organization, the Krewe of Boo, and we are sure it will become a treasure in this city of rich tradition. The Krewe set up the First Responders fund for EMS, police and fireman, many of whom are still stuggling from financial and other issues after Katrina. The Parade:
Spooky stuff, of course. The parade rolls at 7 pm on October 24, 2009. There will be 22 floats (think a 20-foot high Wolfman), along with bands, dance groups, and other marching entertainers. The parade starts at Elysian Fields and Decatur, then rolls down Decatur to South Peters, turns on Canal and continues to Bourbon Street. A U-turn takes it down Canal to Tchoupitoulas, then left on Julia to Convention Center Blvd. and ending at the former River City Casino for the post parade extravaganza. That's near the Robin Street Wharf, behind the Morial Convention Center.Throws and Such:
The parade begins at 7:00 pm. Since Marie Laveau will be around, try to catch one of her voodoo dolls. Other throws will include more universally recognized Halloween symbols, such as bones and jack-o-lanterns. Dracula beads, pumpkin head skeleton dolls, and glow-in-the-dark skull beads are also being tossed to the crowds. The Party:
The Halloween Costume Expose is the Krewe party following the Parade. It costs $100.00 per ticket, but everything goes to those police and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day. The ticket price includes food, drinks, and live entertainment. This costume party, in its first year of 2007, drew over 1000 people. Expect to see the King Vampire Lestat, Queen Marie Laveau, and their scary court.Boo in the Quarter: A Toast to First Responders:
From October 25-31, many French Quarter restaurants will be offering special menus and/or specialty drinks. Arnaud's, Antoine's, K-Pauls, the Old Absinthe House, and many more bars and restaurants are participating. Ask for the Krewe Of Boo First Responders Special.
