Where:
Before 2011, Oktoberfest was held every year at Deutsches Haus, 200 S. Galvez Street in New Orleans. However, because that area of Mid-City will be the site of a new University Teaching Hospital, Deutches Haus has been sold and is no longer there. The organization, formed in 1928 as a benevolent and social organization, has moved their quarters to Metairie for two years until a suitable, new site can be chosen in New Orleans. Octoberfest in 2011 & 2012 will be held in River Town in Kenner, Louisiana.
The Beer and Food:
Oktoberfest features live bands German food and beer, wine and schnapps, and Souviners from Germany. The beer choices are exceptional. A partial list includes Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Spaten Lager, Oktoberfest, Franziskaner, Optimator Dinkel Acker Dark Paulaner Hefeweizen, Munich Lager, Oktoberfest Hofbrau Oktoberfest, Munich Lager Warsteiner and Warsteiner Dunkel Bitburger Kostritzer Schwarzbier (Black Lager) Also there's Schnapps (Goldwasser, Goldschlager, Rumplemintz, Black Haus), and Clean Slate Reisling. These beers are paired with great German food like, Sauerbraten, Bratwurst, Knackwurst & much more.
