State Farm Bayou Classic: The State Farm Bayou Classic has become the premiere sporting rivalry in Black America. This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the event, and it promises to be as exciting as ever. Returning to its home in New Orleans after being moved to Houston last year, the party kicks off on Thanksgiving weekend. The game itself is scheduled for November 25, and will be televised on NBC Sports. A Waterford Crystal trophy is awarded to the winning school.
Battle of the Bands and Greek Show: McDonald's is sponsoring the famous Battle of the Bands and Greek Show on Friday, November 24. Southern and Grambling marchers will square off at the Superdome at 7:00 p.m. Before and after the game, as well as at halftime, the bands perform colorfully impressive routines that are as important to the fans as what happens on the gridiron.
The Game: The teams belong to the Southwestern Atlantic Conference (SWAC), and are rivals in the best sense of the word. Their fans are some of the most enthusiastic in football. and although Southern leads the series by two games, Grambling is determined to make this year its own. The game kicks off Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Superdome, preceded by a great indoor fan festival beginning at 10;00 a.m.
