Sure we all go the the French Quarter Fest for the food and the music. But, there are other special events to enjoy that only add to the fun of the French Quarter Festival.

FRIDAY, April 13, 2007
From 1:00pm to 5:00pm the 11th Annual New Orleans International Music Colloquium, "New Orleans in the 1910's," featuring presentations, films, interviews, and music performances will be held. Call (504)680-9044.
There are several special events sponsered by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park at 916 N. Peters St.
1:00 Live Oral History Interview with drummer Reed Vaughan
11:30am-12:30pm "African Retentions in Jazz," a musical performance with Rangers Matt Hempsey and Bruce Barnes.
2:30 Informance/Recordings - "New Orleans Music of the Teens" with a panel discussion led by Jack Stewart.
3:30 Live Oral History Interview with trombonist Al Barthlow
A Second-Line Parade to open the festival
The parade starts in the 100 block of Bourbon Street and goes to Jackson Square. It starts at 10:00 a.m and features the Navy Jazz Band.
The 24th Annual Gumbo Ya Ya's World's Largest Praline Contest.
Go to 219 Bourbon St. Guess the weight of the world's largest praline and also enter the newest "Pile of Pecans in a Jar" Contest.
Courtyard tours
Half the fun of being in the French Quarter is wondering what the inner courtyards of the old homes look like. Well, here's your chance to find out. From 1:00pm-3:00pm there's an open Courtyard at the Gallier House, 1126 Royal St.
From 2:00pm-4:00pm try to make the Patio Planters' Historic Courtyards Self-Guided Tour of homes at 1113 Chartres St., 526 Gov. Nicholls St., 831 Gov. Nicholls St., 814 Gov. Nicholls.

Williams Research Center lecture
, Located at 410 Chartres St., the Historic New Orleans Collection presents "Les Amis du Jazz: William Russell, Fred Ramsey, Hugues Panassié, Charles Delaunay, and the Revival of New Orleans Jazz, 1938-1949." Lecture presented by Bruce Raeburn and featuring performances by Tom McDermott and Evan Christopher. At 7:00pmFor the Kids
11:00-7:00 McDonogh 15 School hosts "Family Friendly Fest" sponsored by Konica Minolta and Tulane Hospital for Children, with children's entertainment, activities, art workshops, a visual art sale, and concessions at the corner of St. Phillip and Royal Streets (721 St. Phillip St.). Three stages will feature entertainment by students from NOCCA, McDonogh 15 and others, as well as Papillon, Calliope Puppets, and Philip Melancon.
