The Backbeat Presents Series

By , About.com Guide

Backbeat Presents helps support the Backbeat Foundation with programs concerts in New Orleans all year round. It's come a long way since its inception in 2005 to help New Orleans musicians after Katrina.

Backbeat Presents

This is a collaborative effort of concert promoters that features concerts throughout the year, with emphasis on Jazz Fest with the Backbeat Jazzfest Series, Mardi Gras (Mardi Grasz Fun(k)stravaganza) and Halloween. There are four venues: The Blue Nile, Tipitina’s French Quarter, Republic NOLA, and the Studio at Colton.

Studio At Colton

The first three sites are familiar to New Orleanians and visitors alike as great musicial houses. The Studio at Colton is new. At 2300 St. Claude Avenue, it is a conversion of an old public school closed since Katrina. The residents have renovated classrooms into artist studios space with a public assembly space, including a large capacity theater featuring a built-in stage. There is an open space in front of the stage and theatre style seating. It is located on the newest arts area of town, the St. Claude arts corridor.

Some Famous Artists

Many well known artists participate in these concerts, including Ivan and Cyril Neville, Trombone Shorty, the Wild Magnolias, and Tab Benoit.
