The Fourth of July in New Orleans

By Sharon Keating, About.com

Even though New Orleans is the most European city in the country, we still like to celebrate Independence Day. Here are some of the planned festivities.

Essence Music Festival:

Bringing some of the greatest visitors to New Orleans, Essence Music Festival is the place to be on the Fourth.

Go Fourth on the River Fireworks Cruise:

The Steamboat Natchez offers a cruise on the Mississippi, from which all seats are front and center for the Symphony In The Sky fireworks display. A barbeque/picnic buffet will be served and a DJ will play great music. Boarding opens 6:30 PM, and the boat sails from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. Find out more about this cruise on the Steamboat Natchez.

Go 4th on the River:

The Go 4th on the River Dueling Barges Fireworks Extravaganza is an annual Celebration along Woldenberg Park at the Riverfront. Family activities are offered all day, and admission is free. "Go Fourth on the River" was selected as one of the Southeast Tourism Society's top 20 travel destinations for July and the American Pyrotechnics Association has made it one of the top 5 "must see" fireworks display in the United States.
