Julia Street art walk

Sharon Keating

What:

Jammin' on Julia is one of the great art events of the year. Blocks of Art galleries are open late for viewing. Streets are closed off and set with cash bars, food and tables for people watching. Most galleries present new shows for the event and feature sales.

Where:

It all happens on Julia Street between Baronne Street and the River in the Arts/Warehouse District of New Orleans. Some side streets off Julia also participate.

When :

The event is usually the first Saturday in May. However, in 2009 the date has been moved to the first Saturday in April. No news yet whether that is a permanent change. It begins at 6 p.m. and ends about 10. There are often after parties at various locations along Julia Street.

A Great Place to People Watch and Buy Art.:

There are many art galleries along this stretch of Julia Street, selling mostly comtemporary art. Furniture, sculpture and glass are also available.
