Mardi Gras Indians March on St. Joseph's Day

Tuesday March 10, 2009
The two big days of the year for the Mardi Gras Indians are Mardi Gras and St. Joseph's night (March 19th). The also march on Super Sunday in March (usually the closest Sunday to St. Joseph's Day, taking into consideration the weather and the mood of the Indians.) The problem catching them is that the route, times and exact locations are entirely up to the various tribes of Mardi Gras Indians. But, if you ever get lucky enough to see them march, it's a memorable experience you won't soon forget. Rumor has it that this year the Uptown Indians will parade this Sunday, March 15th and the Downtown Indians will parade next Sunday. Normally the Uptown Indians gather at Washington Avenue & LaSalle Street. The downtown Indians gather at Bayou St. John at Esplanade Ave. Things usually get started around noon. Good Luck!
