Notes from the first week of Jazzfest
Monday May 1, 2006
Well the first wekend of Jazz Fest is over, but what a great time! Our group camped out at the Acura stage, but left for visits to the Gospel, Fais do do, Jazz and Economy Hall tents. And of course, foraged for food in between. Some of the highlights were the Creole Jazz Serenaders, Joe "Cool" Davis, Alan Tousaint, Elvis Costelo, Bob Dylan, and the weekend closed out with "The Boss." As a special surprise, The Edge, guitar player for U2, came up out of the audience onto the stage to play "Stand by me" with the New Birth Brass Band, and later to jam with the Dave Matthews Band.
In between all that, I ate Cochon de lait po-boy, a soft shell crab po-boy, Pheasant, Quail & Andouille Gumbo, Oyster Rockefeller Bisque, crabmeat stuffed mushrooms, crawfish enchiladas, crawfish pie, ice cream and a sno-ball. I know, I know, I'm out of control. It's just that there was no other place on the planet to be last weekend and I wanted to live it all!!
Get my picks for next weekend in music and food, and if you don't have them yet, get your tickets and get down here!
