The long Mardi Gras weekend has begun!! Last night, the weather was parade perfect, the crowds were living it up, and the krewes did not disappoint. Hermes, which always parades on the Friday before Mardi Gras, was in rare form. Always generous, the beads and doubloons came fast and heavy, and the kids were thrilled. Krewe D'Etat, perhaps the most satirical parade of all, left no one unscathed--there are no sacred cows to these guys.
It was heartening to be among the thick crowds near my home. St. Charles Avenue looked, well, it looked like old times. There are temporary tents set up already on the neutral ground
streetcar tracks. Alas--come back my old friends, you mean green machines. But, until then,
PARTY ON!!!
